Successful Cancer Treatment Using Umbilical Cord Stem Cells

Sorrel Mason, age 2, had a rare cancer – acute myeloid leukemia – and had a 30% chance of survival. After a failed search across America and Europe to find a suitable bone marrow tissue donor, a partial match was finally found in umbilical stem cells from Japan. A bone marrow transplant was successfully performed on Sorrel at British Royal Hospital for Children. The transplant saved the toddler’s life, and is a testimony to the success, safety, and efficacy of cord stem cell research and treatment.
