by Daniel McConchie on August 19, 2008

Americans United for Life is pleased to announce the 2008 AUL Voter Guide Program.  AUL will distribute up to $500,000 for educational voter guides to be disseminated during the 2008 election cycle.

To qualify, voter guide programs must have the following characteristics:
•    Address life issues including abortion, bioethics, and end-of-life issues as well as other issues of importance to the voters in the state;
•    Cover Presidential and other federal and state races;
•    Comply with requirements of 501(c)(3) regulations as interpreted in IRS Fact Sheet 2006-17 and with appropriate state election laws.

In order to apply for a grant, applicants must provide the following information:
•    A copy of every edition of the voter guide(s) to be distributed;
•    A distribution plan;
•    A written estimate of printing and distribution costs for which the grant is requested;
•    A statement by AUL-approved legal counsel that indicates that the voter guides and distribution plan are compliant with IRS regulations for voter guide distribution by 501(c)(3) organizations;
•    An outline of other funding to be used to help pay for the guides.

Each grant will be made on a 1-1 match basis and will apply to the printing and distribution of the voter guides.  Upon approval of the grant, an advance of 50% of the total grant amount will be distributed with the remaining 50% being distributed upon completion of the grant’s terms.  Each grant recipient will be required to produce the following information in the form of a report to AUL:
•    Amount of matching funds raised;
•    Very brief summary of how the guides were distributed;
•    Total number of voter guides printed and distributed;
•    Number of guides mailed versus distributed via churches and other organizations.

A copy of AUL’s logo, web site address, and statement of our financial support of the project is required to be printed on any guides AUL helps fund.
